CD Projekt RED has announced a remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It arrives on 29 September 2026 and it is free for anyone who already owns the game. And today, without waiting for September, both original expansions have been handed to every owner: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
What the remaster changes
This is not a re-release with the sharpness slider pushed up. Going by the studio list, both the picture and the way the game feels in your hands have been reworked.
- Combat and movement. The fighting itself, traversal, the sign effects and new finishers are all on the list.
- Roach handles differently. Mount handling got its own line, as did monster behaviour.
- The skill tree is revamped. Plus transmogrification, so you can wear any armour with the look of another.
- Photo mode is expanded. A small thing, but in ten years everyone has used it.
Remastered lands on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and on the same day the game reaches two new places for the first time: a native Nintendo Switch 2 version and Battle.net, through a new partnership with Blizzard. Switch 2 pre-orders are already open. Buying the expansion on Battle.net unlocks a Geralt inspired skin in Diablo 4, with details due at BlizzCon in September.
The expansions went free today
Geoff Keighley announced this one from the stage. Everyone who owns The Witcher 3 got access to Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine today, at no extra cost.
If you once grabbed the base game in a sale for a couple of euro and never bought the expansions, go and check your library. Blood and Wine is regularly called one of the best expansions the genre has produced, and now it is simply sitting there.
Songs of the Past and the new realm of Letten
The teaser for the third expansion was shown in the same slot. The region is called Letten: a quiet rural land of harvests, festivals and folklore, with something long dormant and unpleasant underneath it.
Songs of the Past arrives in 2027 and, unlike the two older ones, it is a paid expansion. Same four platforms, Switch 2 included. It is co-developed with Fool's Theory, a studio led by Witcher 3 veterans, while the remaster is being built with Yigsoft.
The split is worth noting. In the morning the studio said The Witcher 4 targets 2028 and would not be shown at the event, and by the evening it delivered a remaster of the third game, free expansions and a teaser for a new region. They are covering a two year gap with what they already have, and doing it generously.
