Killzone Shadow Fall, one of Guerrilla Games' PS4 launch titles, now runs on Windows without an emulator. The fan port by developer lesca-191204 came out on October 16 as a public beta, and on October 17 version 0.2.0 added render resolutions up to 4K and cut VRAM use roughly in half. The author says the campaign should be playable from start to finish, and on his RTX 2060 Super the game runs at 40-60 fps once loaded. No game files are included: you need a dump of CUSA00190 version 1.81 from your own PS4.
What the port can do

For a shooter, the controls matter most: mouse aiming, a keyboard with rebindable keys, and Xbox and PlayStation controllers. The touchpad that commands the OWL drone on PS4 is replaced by a shortcut: hold Delete and drag the mouse. The game's code runs directly on the CPU, and graphics are translated to Vulkan in real time.
- Render resolution of 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 1800p or 4K. Since version 0.2.0 the game really renders at that resolution, shadows and effects included, rather than stretching 1080p.
- Frame rate. A 30 or 60 fps cap, plus experimental 144, 240 and unlimited options. Game speed, audio and physics stay correct, but on a 60 Hz monitor you need to turn VSync off.
- Launcher in English and Spanish: display mode, anisotropic filtering, FSR 1, control mapping and automatic updates that keep your saves.
- Fixed an endless loading screen when moving from chapter 2 to chapter 3.
How much VRAM it needs

In the first beta the game used about 7.8 GB of VRAM at 1080p, and the author advised against playing on cards with less than 8 GB. Version 0.2.0 cut that by 40-50 percent: by his measurements 1080p now needs about 4 GB, 1440p about 4.1 GB and 4K about 5.5 GB, so 4K fits on an 8 GB card. The other requirements: 64-bit Windows 10 version 1903 or newer, or Windows 11, a GPU with Vulkan 1.3, and 16 GB of RAM.
The catch

It's a beta. The first campaign start can take a very long time while shaders compile, and may even crash: just launch the game again. New effects stutter the first time, lighting flickers in places in chapter 2, and the shader cache grows to several gigabytes. At the time of the first beta the port hadn't been tested on AMD GPUs or Intel CPUs. Multiplayer is offline only, against bots in Botzone. The author lists DLSS, FSR 3.1 and FSR 4 as the top priority, but for now FSR 1 is the only upscaler.
Only download the port from the lesca-191204/killzone-shadowfall-pc repository on GitHub. Killzone Shadow Fall never officially came to PC. It's not the only PS4 exclusive in this wave of fan ports either: in the past few days The Order: 1886 and Gran Turismo Sport made it to PC too, and we keep the full list in our overview of PS4 games running without an emulator.
