The WARDOGS playtest peaked at 219,762 concurrent players and landed in Steam's ten most played games of the week. That is Valve's own number rather than an outside estimate, and it belongs to a free test of a game that has not shipped yet.

How many people are actually in there
In Valve's weekly rollup closed on 4 September the WARDOGS Playtest sits sixth and appears on the list for the first time. On peak concurrents it passed FiveM and Grand Theft Auto V Legacy and came close to Apex Legends.
For the comparison that would not fit the chart: Counter-Strike 2 peaked at 1,227,890 the same week and Dota 2 at 880,822. So the summit is far away, but for a free test with no release behind it the number is still out of the ordinary.

What the game is
The developer describes WARDOGS as a tactical all out warfare shooter where one hundred players split across three teams fight over a control zone. It is set in the derelict industrial mountains of Eastern Europe on a destructible battlefield, and the description states outright that teamwork pays and cash is king.
- A hundred players, three sides. Not two, and that changes the logic of a fight: while you press one team, the other walks in behind you.
- Developed by BULKHEAD, published by Team17. BULKHEAD is the British studio behind BATTALION: Legacy, formerly Battalion 1944.
- Out on 10 September, in early access. The store genres list Early Access plainly, so it arrives unfinished and grows from there.
- 39.99 euro. The playtest is still open and you can join it from the store page.
About the Battlefield, Squad and ARMA comparisons: those come from players, not from the publisher. Squad is the name that comes up most, because a win here is assembled out of logistics, fortifications and vehicles rather than one gunfight.

What hardware it asks for
This is where the game is a pleasant surprise. The official requirements from the Steam page:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 | Windows 11 |
| Processor | Core i5-8600 or Ryzen 5 3500 | Core i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 5700X |
| Memory | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| Graphics | GeForce GTX 1660 or Radeon RX 590 | GeForce RTX 3070 or Radeon RX 6700 XT |
| Storage | 50 GB | 50 GB |
| What it targets | 1080p low, 60 fps with upscaling | 1440p medium, 70 fps and up, native |
A GTX 1660 as the minimum for a hundred player game with destruction is modest. Note the caveat inside the requirements themselves: the minimum row targets 1080p with upscaling, so without FSR or DLSS the sixty frames are not promised. If that is roughly your card, our piece on what actually runs on a GTX 1650 works on the same principle.
Sixteen gigabytes of system memory in both the minimum and the recommended row. Eight will not do.
