We checked the prices ourselves, the way we do every week, and the RTX 5090 in Germany has crossed five thousand euro. The cheapest offer on geizhals.de today is 5249 euro. Four days ago, when we put together our roundup of cards for 4K, the same position sat at 4999.
Two hundred and fifty euro in four days. That is not a yearly trend or an analyst forecast, it is two of our own snapshots taken the same way ninety six hours apart.
What went up and what did not
The interesting part is not the 5090 itself but what is happening next to it. Here are the same four cards from our 4K roundup, with prices then and now.

Both GeForce cards added about five percent, the RX 9070 XT two and a half, and the plain RX 9070 did not move by a single cent. So it is not the whole market getting dearer, it is the top of the range, and the more memory a card carries the harder it is hit.
What it is supposed to cost
The recommended price of the RTX 5090 is 1999 dollars and NVIDIA has not changed it since launch. The Founders Edition sells in Europe for 2099 euro, when you can buy one at all. Which means a partner card now goes for more than two and a half times the official tag.
- In January the same card was around 3029 euro. That figure comes from HardwareLuxx, which flagged the jump first. Over eight months that works out to roughly plus 73 percent.
- Not a single model sits below 5200 euro now, and several mainstream ones are edging toward 5500.
- In the United States the price crossed five thousand too, dollars this time.
A small discrepancy I am not going to hide. TechPowerUp, citing HardwareLuxx, names 5242.94 euro for a specific INNO3D iCHILL Frostbite Pro as the cheapest offer. Our own listing put MSI and GIGABYTE first at 5249.00. The gap is six euro and comes down to which listings fell inside the filter. It changes nothing about the conclusion: five thousand has been passed either way.
Why this is happening and what to do
The cause is not NVIDIA and not one greedy shop. GDDR7 memory is getting more expensive, it is getting more expensive because of demand from artificial intelligence, and board partners have been passing that cost into the price for months. A card carrying 32 gigabytes takes the worst of it, which is exactly what the table above shows.
NVIDIA has not commented publicly. Instead the company hands out occasional units at the recommended price at events like PAX West, which is, to put it gently, not a solution.
My practical conclusion is the same as four days ago, only now it has a second data point behind it. Leave the top of the range alone. For 733 euro an RX 9070 XT delivers sixty five frames at 4K, which is an eighth of what the 5090 costs.
