This weekend you can play Squad and Gas Station Simulator for free on Steam, and on Xbox both The Division 2 and PGA TOUR 2K25 are open, even without Game Pass. Both Steam games are free until Monday, 28 September, at 17:00 UTC, which is 10:00 in Los Angeles and 18:00 in London. Below, for each game: what is open, until when, and whether you need a subscription.
Squad on Steam: the full game until 28 September
Squad is a 100-player tactical shooter, 50 against 50, with vehicles, base building and proximity voice chat inside your squad. You will not win it alone: it is built around teamwork. The whole game is open for the weekend, not a trial slice. Buy it before the event ends and you will not need to download anything again. Offworld has not said anything specific about progress carrying over.
- Price: 50% off during the event, $19.99 instead of $39.99.
- Reviews: 84% positive out of 83,818, and 78% over the last 30 days.
- Players: 15,703 were in the game on the afternoon of 25 September, according to Steam, so servers will not be empty.
- Hardware: at minimum a GTX 1060 6 GB or RX 580 6 GB, Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 3600, 8 GB of RAM and 65 GB of storage. The game has already moved to Unreal Engine 5.
Gas Station Simulator on Steam: also until 28 September
Steam did not put the second free game on its front page. The "Play for free until Sep 28 @ 10:00am" line sits only on the Gas Station Simulator store page, and the deadline matches Squad: Monday, 17:00 UTC. You buy a wrecked filling station on Route 66, pump fuel, patch the roof, scrub the toilets (yes, really) and slowly turn it into a business. The whole game is open. Saves go to Steam Cloud, so if you buy it on the same account your progress should carry over, though DRAGO entertainment has not promised that in so many words.
- Price: 55% off, $8.99 instead of $19.99, until 28 September.
- Reviews: 87% positive out of 10,611 English reviews.
- Mode: single-player only, full controller support.
- Why now: on 21 September the same studio released the prequel, Roadhouse Simulator, and it has a free biker DLC coming for the gas station.
Xbox: two games for everyone, two with Game Pass only
Free Play Days run from Thursday, 24 September, to Sunday, 27 September. Microsoft has opened The Division 2 and PGA TOUR 2K25 to every Xbox owner, no subscription needed. The Escapists 2 and Young Suns are for Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential members only, and Young Suns also runs on PC. Microsoft does not give an exact end time.
