Valve is changing the "Discounts & Events" section on the Steam home page. Right now it shows deals that developers or Valve itself book by hand on a calendar: Daily Deals, Midweek Deals and Weekend Deals. In early 2027 they will be replaced by a personalized selection for each customer. Valve has already stopped booking new slots, as it told developers on Steamworks on 29 September.
What changes, and when

The deals section on the home page is currently a fixed number of slots. Valve is no longer scheduling them: Weekend Deals, Midweek Deals and Daily Deals are paused. Anything already booked will still run as planned. There is no firm date for the switch yet; Valve says it will share timing in the coming weeks and expects to drop the calendar entirely early next year.
Discounts themselves are not going anywhere, and developers still set them. What changes is who sees them. Instead of one shop window for everyone, Steam will match sales to each person's taste, much like its recommendations and Discovery Queue already do. Valve says this lets more discounted games appear on the home page, not just the few that made it onto the calendar. Developers are promised new tools for managing discounts. The post does not mention the big seasonal sales.
Why Valve is doing this, and what it means for buyers

Valve spent several months testing personalized slots in this section. By its numbers, the section showed 10 times more games per day than with the manual calendar, with clear increases in store page visits, wishlist adds and cart adds. The company says outright that it does not want developers spending time trying to convince someone at Valve to feature their games.
For buyers, that means more deals on the home page, but mostly for games Steam thinks suit you. TechPowerUp points out the downside: a feed like that can keep players inside the genres they already know and surface new things less often. The surest way to catch a discount on a specific game is your wishlist, since Steam emails you when something on it goes on sale. What you can play for free over the weekend we cover every Friday, most recently Squad and The Division 2.
