DLSS 5 on Radeon RX 6000: DLSS-NR on AMD 0.6.0 adds RDNA 2

DLSS-NR on AMD, the mod that runs DLSS 5 neural rendering on Radeon graphics cards, reached version 0.6.0 on 3 October and now supports the RX 6000 series on RDNA 2 for the first time. Exactly a month ago, on 3 September, the project started on a single RX 9070 XT; now it covers three Radeon generations. The author, danielblnc, has not yet said how many frames RX 6000 cards get.

RX 6000 support is the headline of the release notes. Those cards need a separate runtime, AMD HIP 7.2, which comes from the HIP SDK on AMD's website. For every card, the author promises a more accurate image and lists three fixes: in the mode where the network runs before the upscaler, dark areas, small lights and small objects no longer flicker, and auto-exposure no longer lags.

There are no numbers for RX 6000 in the notes, and you should not expect RX 9000 speeds from them. The mod already ran on RX 7000, but for a long time it was much slower there, until version 0.5.0 on 29 September made it up to three times faster, according to the author. On RX 9000 the network in Fast mode has become 3.1 times faster since 15 September, if you multiply the percentages in the release notes.

What you need to run it

  • Graphics card. Radeon RX 9000, RX 7000 or now RX 6000. RX 6000 also needs HIP 7.2.
  • System and game. Windows 11, a DirectX 12 game with FSR, Adrenalin 26.1.1 or newer. The author tested the mod in Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA V Enhanced.
  • The DLSS 5 library. The mod contains no NVIDIA code; you take the network file yourself from a game that supports DLSS 5. We advise against bundles that hand that file out.
  • Anti-cheat. Games with anti-cheat block the swapped library, so keep the mod out of online games.

Officially, DLSS 5 still exists only on GeForce RTX 50 cards, and AMD has not commented on it. Everything running on Radeon is the work of one enthusiast. How the mod got here, and what else has happened around DLSS 5, is in our DLSS 5 guide. We covered the previous step, the RX 7000 speedup, in a separate story.
