Sony has posted the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalog for October, and the headliner is a game that came out only last year: Mafia: The Old Country. Horizon Forbidden West returns to the catalog, and the co-op shooter Mycopunk launches straight into it on day one. Most of the lineup unlocks on Tuesday 20 October. The seven games that already have a US PlayStation Store price add up to 279.93 dollars, while a month of Extra costs 16.99.
Ten games, and they do not all arrive on the same day
Eight games go into the Extra catalog, and Premium adds two more on top. Dates differ by game and by country, so here is the whole list:
- Mafia: The Old Country, PS5. 20 October. The mob story set in 1900s Sicily. 49.99 dollars in the US store, on sale for 29.99 right now.
- Horizon Forbidden West, PS5 and PS4. 20 October. Sony marks it as a re-release, it has been in the catalog before. 49.99.
- Mycopunk, PS5. 20 October worldwide, the same day it comes out on PlayStation. Four-player co-op against fungal aliens. No PS Store price yet.
- The Midnight Walk, PS5. Already there since 14 October in the US and the UK (15 October in Japan). Dark fantasy built from real clay, playable in PS VR2. 29.99.
- Poppy Playtime: Chapter 2, PS5 and PS4. 27 October. 9.99.
- Tales of Arise - Beyond the Dawn Edition, PS5 and PS4. 27 October, the JRPG together with its expansion. 49.99.
- Monster Energy Supercross 25, PS5. 27 October. 59.99, the most expensive game of the month.
- Premium only: Dino Crisis 2 and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition, both PS5 and PS4.
The 27 October dates are given for the US, the UK and Japan only. Sony also warns that catalogs differ by region, so check your own store on the day.
Mycopunk is the one I would try first. A day one co-op shooter is exactly the kind of game you want to test with friends before paying for it, and the catalog lets you do that.
What the same games cost without the subscription
I checked the US store on 18 October. The six Extra games with a price come to 249.94 dollars, almost two years of Extra on the annual plan (134.99). Add RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 for Premium and it is 279.93. Mycopunk and Dino Crisis 2 had no price in the store yet, so they are left out of the sum.
One small trap. Mafia is discounted to 29.99 at the moment, which is less than two months of Extra (33.98). If it is the only game here you care about, buying it is cheaper than subscribing to play it.
Premium: Dino Crisis 2, a theme park and two trials
Premium (19.99 a month in the US) gets the Capcom classic Dino Crisis 2 and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition (29.99 in the store). On 20 October Premium members also get game trials of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy and Mortal Shell II.
For Halloween every PS Plus tier gets a few extras. From 21 October to 4 November the first Back 4 Blood expansion, Tunnels of Terror, is free to download, with 95% off the other two packs and the Annual Pass. World War Z gets a Halloween skin pack on 20 October. Dead by Daylight players have until 26 October to reach 10 million matches and unlock a members-only charm.
