Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 isn't out yet, but on Steam it already sits at "Very Positive": 2,694 of 2,935 reviews as of October 18, or 91.8 percent. That's unusual for the series. Last year's Black Ops 7 is at 37.8 percent and "Mostly Negative", Black Ops 6 at 45.5, Modern Warfare III at 48.1. None of the entries we checked is above 90 percent on Steam right now. There's an important catch, though.
What's actually being reviewed

Since October 16, people who pre-ordered have had early access to the single-player campaign, while the full launch with multiplayer is set for October 23 (Steam lists the 22nd). So nearly all of those three thousand reviews come from buyers who paid in advance and have only seen the story. Nobody has reviewed the multiplayer yet, the core of the series, while the older games' scores also cover online play, seasons and the store. The chart fairly shows the mood, not a final verdict: MW4's numbers will almost certainly move after October 23.
- The best of the older games on Steam right now is 2015's Black Ops III at 85.2 percent across 235,000 reviews, with Black Ops Cold War and 2019's Modern Warfare at around 79.
- Price on the US Steam store is $69.99. The developer is Infinity Ward, with seven more Activision studios in the credits.
What you need on PC

The requirements on the Steam page are modest for 2026. Minimum: 64-bit Windows 10, a Ryzen 5 1400 or Core i5-6600, 8 GB of RAM and a Radeon RX 470, GeForce GTX 970 or 1060, or Arc A580. Recommended: Windows 11, a Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i7-8700K, 16 GB and an RX 6600 XT, RTX 3060 or Arc B580. The real constraint is elsewhere: the game needs 115 GB on an SSD at launch, and an internet connection is required.
