Sega's 1997 light-gun cabinet The Lost World: Jurassic Park now runs natively on PC. A fan project called LostWorldNative recompiled the arcade code to C++ and draws it with its own Vulkan renderer, which is how a 29-year-old raptor ends up with ray-traced sun shadows, true widescreen and NVIDIA DLAA. There is no ready-made exe yet: you build it yourself, from your own dump of the arcade ROM.

What the port does

The snicolast/LostWorldNative repository went up on GitHub on October 26. The cabinet ran on a 100 MHz PowerPC 603e, and the port's architecture notes put the reachable code at about 240,000 instructions in 1,636 functions, all statically recompiled. The Real3D Pro-1000 graphics chip is replaced by a Vulkan 1.3 renderer that reads the same scene data. Here is what the README lists:
- True 16:9 and 21:9, not stretched, at any resolution. You see more of the scene instead of a cropped one.
- Graphics: ray-traced sun shadows, ambient occlusion, distance haze and bloom, plus MSAA or DLAA, HD text and HUD, and texture pack support.
- Weather the arcade never had: heavy rain, wet ground and lightning during the T-Rex storm, and a modern flashlight on night stages.
- Smooth output at 120 Hz, 144 Hz and above, while the game itself keeps the cabinet's 57.5 Hz logic.
Sound is the arcade mix with surround and headphone modes. You can aim with a mouse, a gamepad's sticks or its gyro, and two people can play with two mice: player two just clicks theirs and joins with a blue crosshair. I like that nobody tried to turn a rail shooter into something else here.
New modes, and how to build it

Next to the classic arcade run, the menu has Boss Fight, which drops you straight into any of the four bosses (the female T-Rex, Deinosuchus, Carnotaurus and the final T-Rex), a Survival mode, achievements and stats such as accuracy, dinosaurs killed and best time per stage.
Building is where most people get stuck with ports like this, so step by step:
- You need 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, a Vulkan GPU, Python 3 and Build Tools for Visual Studio 2022 with C++ support. The full workload is over 6 GB; the README has a winget command that installs only the compiler, CMake and a Windows SDK.
- Your own ROM. None is included. Only one set works: lostwsga.zip, the Japan Rev. A set for Model 3 Step 1.5. The author says other versions of the game will not run.
- Build: put lostwsga.zip next to build.bat and run it once. The first run downloads SDL3 and NVIDIA DLSS and takes a few minutes. After that you launch LostWorld.exe.
The project is a day old and MIT-licensed, and VR through OpenXR sits in its architecture notes as the next phase. If installing a compiler for one rail shooter sounds like too much, you can wait for a prebuilt release, though the author has not promised one.
