TikTok has produced an argument that looks like a joke from the outside and has pulled in millions of views anyway: women asking their boyfriends not to play GTA 6, because the game involves texting Lucia and taking her on dates. The word being used for it is micro-cheating.

Where it started

It began with a clip by content creator Shelby Haas. Her position is stated plainly: do not let your boyfriend or fiancé or husband play GTA 6.

The reasoning goes like this. The game has a relationship system between Jason and Lucia that runs not on cutscenes but on everyday small things: walks together, shopping trips, holding hands and, above all, texting. The game counts attention paid to your partner and penalises you for neglect if you ignore the messages.

The reply from her fiancé, Alex Eubank, is the telling part. He said that of course he wants to play, but if it bothers his woman, he will not be playing. That clip is the one that travelled furthest.

A summary of both sides of the micro-cheating argument

What people say back

There are two counterarguments and both are fairly boring, which on the internet is usually fatal.

  • The romance is entirely optional. You can never start it and Jason and Lucia stay business partners in crime. Rockstar has said separately that it does not want to foist that thread onto players.
  • The Sims has been doing exactly this for twenty five years. You can build a family there, cheat, divorce and remarry, and somehow in a quarter of a century nobody called it micro-cheating.

The second argument closes the question for me. The difference between Lucia and a Sim is that Lucia has a face, a voice and a trailer with millions of views. So the complaint is not about the mechanic, it is about how convincingly the mechanic was made.

Which makes it obvious the argument is not about the game at all. If someone is genuinely hurt that their partner sent a fictional woman a fictional message, the problem does not sit inside GTA 6 and banning the game will not solve it.

What the in-game phone actually does

Since there is so much noise around it, let me separate what was shown from what was invented.

What was shown: the phone in GTA 6 behaves like an object in the character's hand rather than a menu in the corner of the screen. Through it you can text the other protagonist, call them to your location, and receive domestic messages from them, a reminder to lock up the safehouse and the like. Messages arrive in the middle of a mission, without the game pausing for them. How that ties into the relationship meter we covered in a separate piece on the pair.

Now the invented part, because I have already been asked about it. There is a claim going round that the phone will let you exchange intimate photographs. I checked specifically: nothing of the sort appears in Rockstar's material or in the descriptions of the gameplay that was shown. There is a separate and entirely different topic about NPC nudity from the leaks and about the age rating, and the two keep getting mixed up. Until Rockstar says otherwise this is speculation, and I am not going to repeat it as fact.

The game arrives on 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Rockstar has not announced a PC version, which we went through separately. So anyone planning a ban has two more months to prepare their arguments.

Shelby Haas's position, Alex Eubank's reply, the comparison with The Sims and the point about the romance being optional: the Gulf News write-up of the argument, checked on 12 September 2026.

The relationship mechanic and Rockstar not wanting to foist the romance: our own breakdown of Jason and Lucia, assembled from the official character pages on the Rockstar site.

On exchanging intimate photographs: there is no confirmation in Rockstar's material or in the descriptions of the gameplay shown.
