The GTA 6 leaker showed a nudist town and put spoilers to a vote

On 24 August the person going by Cyberleek released an eleventh clip from the stolen Grand Theft Auto VI build. The file is called nudist_town, and the contents are exactly what the name promises: Jason walks through a nudist resort, and the nudity on screen is not covered by anything.

  • What is in the clip
  • A poll, a bunch of leeks, and haggling with the publisher
  • What Take-Two is doing and how this ends
  • Is the nudist town actually in the finished game
  • The rating is still pending, and that is the interesting part
  • Why we describe the clip and do not link it

Everyone covered this clip, and almost everyone covered the naked NPCs. The most interesting part of the story happened outside the clip though: viewers now pick the subject by vote, and the next question on the ballot is about the plot.

What is in the clip

To be clear up front: we have not watched the clip and we are not linking to it. What follows is a summary of the descriptions published by outlets that did, mainly DSOGaming, Kotaku, GamesRadar and TheGamer.

The action takes place in a fenced-off camp of sorts: a pool, a bar, an open area, cabins and trailers. Jason walks through the crowd, and this is where the part that matters to people interested in the game rather than the nudity begins.

  • The NPCs react differently. Some pay no attention at all, some tell him to stop, and at least one starts a fight. This is not a crowd of identical mannequins, the characters behave differently in the same situation.
  • Then it turns into combat. The scuffle with an NPC becomes a hand-to-hand fight, and that is the first substantial look at melee across all eleven clips.
  • There is no censoring whatsoever. No blurring, no underwear, no bashful camera angles. The nudity is full, on men and women alike, with nothing covered. Kotaku put that straight in its headline and did not soften it either.
  • The models vary. Body types differ between NPCs, this is not one mannequin copied across the site. On a crowd you see in full, that shows up far more than it would under clothes.

Worth remembering that this is a working build, not a finished game. What survives to release and in what form is anybody's guess, possibly including Rockstar's.

Clips nine and ten, which appeared around the same days, are far duller and far more useful: a drive in a car and a night flight in a plane. They show the city from above, and that beats any resort.

Nudist Town did not appear by chance. There is a poll running on Cyberleek's site where viewers choose what gets shown next, and this option won.

The next question is on a different scale altogether: whether to show a Lucia-led prologue. The leaker himself calls that spoilers and says he does not want to make the call, so a poll is required. Which means the audience is being asked, literally, whether to have the story ruined for it, twelve years into the wait.

There is a separate demand that sounds invented, except outlets are quoting it. Cyberleek wants ten people to turn up outside a Take-Two or Rockstar office dressed as leeks, holding game discs. What happens if anyone does it, he has not specified.

Earlier clips were all plastered with the watermark of his own crypto token. He has dropped that on the recent ones, which is arguably the only improvement in this entire saga.

Take-Two has had three clips taken down on copyright grounds, the rest are still up. Cyberleek has never released the full build, and that looks deliberate: as long as he is holding something nobody else has, the story keeps going and so does the attention.

Legally the publisher is right and will get its way eventually. In practice the takedowns work badly: by the time a file comes down it has already spread, and the news about the takedown hands the leaker a little more of an audience.

We cover this as an incident, but we do not link to stolen material and we do not embed the clips. The reason is practical rather than moral: this is somebody's unfinished work shown without their consent, and any judgement about the game formed from it would be unfair to the people making it.

Worth keeping in mind too that an entire industry of fakes has grown around the leaks: in the past week alone we covered a counterfeit build carrying malware and an invented ultimatum. The naked NPCs, unfortunately, are real.

Is the nudist town actually in the finished game

Everything in these clips comes out of a stolen development build, not out of a finished game. A build is a snapshot of work in progress: places get cut, renamed and rebuilt between snapshots, and nobody outside Rockstar knows how old this particular snapshot is.

So the honest phrasing is this. A nudist town exists in the build that was stolen. Whether it exists on 19 November is a different question, and the only party who can answer it is Rockstar, which has said nothing about the location and comments on the leaks only to call them heartbreaking for the team.

The rating is still pending, and that is the interesting part

On Rockstar's own page the game carries the ESRB pending notice, the line that says it may contain content inappropriate for children. GTA 6 has no final rating yet.

That matters because of what happened the last time explicit content turned up inside a GTA. In 2005 modders unlocked the Hot Coffee scenes in San Andreas, which the developers had made unreachable rather than deleted. The ESRB investigated and raised the rating from Mature to Adults Only, Australia banned the game until the content was stripped out, most American retailers will not stock an Adults Only game at all, and the Federal Trade Commission issued a warning to Rockstar and Take-Two.

Nudity walking around a town in a shipped GTA is a rating decision with money attached to it, not a punchline. That is the real reason one short clip travelled this far.

Why we describe the clip and do not link it

The material is stolen. Telling you what is in it is reporting. Hosting it, linking it or embedding it is distribution, and the person handing it out is charging money for the next piece. So there is no link here and there will not be one.

If you want the wider story, the clips in order are in our chronicle of the CyberLeek leaks, and what Take-Two actually did about them is in the piece on the takedowns.
