The GTA 6 leaker wanted an answer. It came from a court

GTA 6: court orders Microsoft and Discord to hand over leaker data

The GTA 6 leaker who calls himself Cyberleek published a manifesto: he wanted Rockstar to answer for the all-digital future of the industry and for fake single player DLC. He got his answer. Not on social media, but in the federal court for the Southern District of New York, and it was addressed not to the public but to Microsoft and Discord.

Both companies have until 4 September to hand over the data that would identify the person behind the name. The list of what was demanded is worth reading in full, because it explains why this story will not end in an argument about values.

What was demanded, and from whom

On 20 August 2026 Take-Two filed DMCA subpoena requests in federal court. By Friday the court had granted them.

  • From Microsoft. All internal business and investigative records about the persona known as cyberleek. Plus account identifiers, registration emails, IP addresses, phone numbers, linked Google and Xbox accounts, device identifiers, and OneDrive content where it relates to GTA, Rockstar or Cyberleek. GTA 6 material was posted to GitHub among other places, and GitHub belongs to Microsoft.
  • From Discord. Identifying information for members of the servers CYBERLEEK, CINEMATICROCKSTAR, Surfer24k, Odyssey.gg and the one the filing describes as the DarkViperAU editors' server. Covering 1 June 2026 to the present.
  • Same deadline for both: 4 September 2026.

Note the difference in wording. Discord is asked for the members of servers, not for one person. Which means the request sweeps in people who were sitting in a chat watching what got posted there.

The single most awkward line in the filing is the mention of the DarkViperAU editors' server. That is Matthew Judge, one of the best known GTA streamers alive, a man who has spent years playing these games in public.

Judge answered briefly and visibly baffled: he does not know anything, and that is not his editors Discord. There is no way to verify that from the outside, but one consequence is already visible. His name now sits in a court document next to the names of the people being hunted. Even if he turns out to have nothing to do with any of it, that line stays in search results forever.

What Microsoft and Discord said

Neither company intends to push back, and both said so openly.

  • Microsoft. Scott Van Vliet, CTO of the Xbox division, posted that the company is working closely with Take-Two and Rockstar Games to support efforts to protect creative works and intellectual property.
  • Discord. Drier still: the company says it sometimes receives DMCA subpoenas, that it reviews them and complies with valid ones, and that this is standard and routine for companies like theirs.

The word doing the work there is "routine". There will be no standoff between the platforms and the rights holder. The DMCA mechanism was built for exactly this and it runs without drama.

The manifesto and the meme coin

Cyberleek explains the leaks as a fight on behalf of players: digital pre-orders are bad, paid add-ons to single player games are a con, the industry is heading the wrong way. Arguments half the comment section on any gaming site would sign. In the same manifesto he promotes his own meme coin, which rises on the attention his leaks generate.

How much has already been pulled out of it and what happened to the price we counted separately, in our breakdown of the leakers cashout. What matters here is different. The fight against the corporations turned out to have a price list, and the court is now asking Microsoft and Discord for exactly the set of data that finds a person like this.

How this ends

Rockstar is holding the line it has not moved off: the team is sorry that spoilers may have affected the experience for some people, and they ask everyone to wait a little longer. The release date has not shifted, 19 November 2026.

After that the arithmetic is simple. The subpoenas are granted, the deadline is 4 September, and what lands on the table is IP addresses, emails, phone numbers and linked Google and Xbox accounts. Identifying a person from that set is not usually hard. The leaker's answer has been more leaks, and each one adds another count to the file.

As for the game, the spoilers are out and that cannot be undone. But the story people end up remembering will probably not be about a nudist town or stolen clips. It will be about a man fighting the corporations who left behind an email address, a phone number and a cloud drive.
